I was handing a liquor license application for a client buying a restaurant, and he just got his temporary license. He was in a near panic.
He told me the wholesalers he was talking to would not sell to him on credit because he only had a temporary license. This was a new one for me (my clients who close on a temporary either have a budget for liquor until the permanent license arrives or close with enough inventory on hand to make it through to the full license).
So, I explained to him why this was happening. The Liquor Authority’s rules and regulations do not stop a wholesaler from extending credit to temporary license holders. They just usually don’t do it as a matter of business policy.
Why am I telling you this? Because I think you should know that in the liquor industry, there is sometimes a pretty big difference between what’s on paper and what happens in the industry in real life. And, you should have someone who can tell you these things so you and your clients can make the best possible business decisions.
In the meantime, if you or a client have questions or need help with a liquor license issue, I’m here to help.
